Danny Lee is one of hundreds of drummers who is "drumming up dreams" for many children. He's been playing the drums for about forty years.
In Houston, the drummers took part in the "texas Big Beat". Big and small, they are playing for six minutes at the same time with cities across the United States and in Canada. They are setting a world record regarding drummers playing drum sets in multi cities.
Donna Fisher, founder of Texas Big Beat has been hosting the event for 3 years. It was her vision to help raise funds for two non-profit organizations.
"To help this children to have a chance for music education through Mr. Holland's Opus and Cherish our Children it's a program called no more victims for kids who's parents are incarcerated and it gives those kids a new chance at life," says Donna Fisher.
Each drummer helps to raise thousands of dollars for the cause.
"Im so excited to be a part of a charitable event like this that allows me to do what I do and incorporate my son who is also a drummer," says Danny Lee.
The best part, they get to play with a few celebrities like Hermann Matthew. He is native to Houston and picked up a drum-set when he was ten. Matthews tours the world doing what he loves. Now he's giving back, hoping to inspire other young musicians.
"Being in Houston it was great playing music you know so it is important for the kids and it's a wonderful cause," says Matthews.
Danny Lee believes music not only nourishes the soul but also the mind.
"It helped form me into the person that I am today and I cant imagine schools taking the music program out it just doesn't make sense to me," says Lee.
